Widespread Police Raids and Online Censorship Target Turkey’s LGBTI+ Community

Turkish authorities have detained more than 10 LGBTI+ activists, raided venues in İstanbul and Ankara, and blocked access to websites and social media accounts. The Ankara investigation focuses on Kaos GL, a prominent advocacy group, amid allegations involving obscenity and association laws. A court order reportedly targeted 73 organizations and activist groups online. Rights advocates say the operations represent a sharp escalation of pressure on the community, while authorities have not indicated when the restrictions or detentions will end either.
