At Staffordshire University, a cohort of students enrolled in a government-funded apprenticeship course aimed at preparing them for careers in software engineering or cybersecurity has raised a serious alarm: much of what they learned was created and delivered by artificial intelligence.
Several students reported that their lectures consisted of AI-generated slides narrated by an AI voiceover. Some described the content as generic, error-prone, and out of touch with real-world practice. A particularly jarring detail: the synthesized voice occasionally shifted accents mid-sentence, and some material bizarrely referenced U.S. laws, raising doubts about the course’s academic quality.
