But the rate of growth is slowing, and international agencies see the first hints that meaningful reductions may soon follow. It is a cautious optimism, the kind that feels more like a cracked door than an open one. Much of the hope centers on rapid improvements in detection. Satellite networks have grown sharper and more numerous, identifying methane leaks in real time with a precision unimaginable a decade ago. Countries and companies can no longer plead uncertainty; emissions are now mapped with coordinates, timestamps, and quantifiable urgency. In climate policy, clarity is often the first step toward accountability. There is also a shift in willingness. And yet, buried in the cautious language of scientists and policymakers, there is a sense that the world might be approaching a turning point. Not a celebration — but a shift. A recognition that technology, pressure, and transparency may finally be aligning in ways capable of slowing methane’s climb.
