A custom low-power chip inside the buds also allows them to wake a paired iPhone while it’s locked, making it easy to capture a thought on the fly. At about $199 with a subscription included, Subtle is pitching these buds not just as a listening accessory but as a productivity tool — an intersection between wearable audio and AI-powered voice computing.

For tech enthusiasts and everyday users alike, the arrival of these earbuds points to a broader trend: where once earbuds were primarily about blocking sound in or out, now they seek to interpret sound with intelligence.
