On December 19, 2025, a planned assault in central Taipei resulted in three deaths and at least 11 injuries, according to authorities. The suspect, 27-year-old Chang Wen, carried out multiple attacks, including stabbings and smoke grenade deployment, across several locations, including a department store and surrounding streets.
The assault began in the afternoon, reportedly with the suspect setting fires at his residence and on public roads before targeting civilians. Emergency services responded quickly to provide medical care and secure the area.
Authorities stated the suspect acted alone. He later died after falling from the fifth floor of a building. Investigators are examining motives and possible prior planning.
