“When Broadcast Becomes One-Way: TikTok Builds a Channel for Creators”

There is a subtle choreography in social media: a creator posts, a follower scrolls, the scroll becomes a pause, a reaction, a connection. But now the rhythm has changed ever so slightly. On November 13, 2025, TikTok introduced a new tool called “Bulletin Board” that invites creators and brands to address their followers in a different key.

With this feature, instead of relying solely on lively feeds or ephemeral stories, a creator can publish a message — text, image, or video — to a dedicated space, and followers can opt in to receive updates. Only the creator posts; followers respond only via emoji reactions, not text replies. The design is surprisingly familiar to those who have seen the broadcast channels on Instagram, which launched in 2023.

Why does this matter? For creators, it offers a quieter but possibly deeper way to speak to their audience. A story fades within hours; a feed post competes for attention. A bulletin board becomes a kind of announcement stage, a place where updates, behind-the-scenes insights, and direct outreach can happen with less distraction. In tests, brands like People Magazine and sports teams like Paris Saint‑Germain used it to share music releases or news updates.

The mechanics are straightforward: creators aged 18 + and with at least 50,000 followers may enable a bulletin board. Followers tap “Join” under the creator’s profile, and updates land in their inbox. Creators may choose to display the board on their profile or keep it more discreet.

Still, this is more than just another feature. It signals how social platforms are adapting to new patterns of connection: less like shouting into an auditorium (the feed) and more like delivering a newsletter to an audience that has chosen to listen. In doing so, TikTok is acknowledging that creators need varied tools — not just to entertain, but to inform, to engage, to build community.

That said, the broadcast model also raises questions. The one-way nature means less direct conversation and perhaps more controlled communication. The need to maintain follower interest, keep content meaningful, and avoid becoming a barrage of announcements will test how well creators adopt the format. For users, opting in means trusting the creator to offer value rather than noise.

And for TikTok, the challenge will be making this feature feel native to its lively, short-form-video culture rather than a bolt-on copy of a competitor’s idea. The platform’s success may depend on how creatively it can integrate bulletin boards with its vast ecosystem of trends, live-streams, and short-form clips.
