West Farms Inferno Leaves 6 Injured, Including 2 Brave Firefighters

WEST FARMS, BRONX — A terrifying blaze tore through a residential building in West Farms, leaving six people hospitalized—including two heroic first responders who put their lives on the line to rescue trapped occupants.

The fast-moving fire broke out early in the afternoon, sending thick plumes of black smoke pouring into the Bronx sky. Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud pops and shouts as flames rapidly spread through the upper floors of the structure, consuming window frames and leaving residents frantically searching for escape routes.

Over 60 firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the multi-alarm call within minutes. Upon arrival, crews were met with intense heat and heavy smoke, forcing them into a high-stakes search-and-rescue operation.

Emergency crews immediately escalated their response as conditions inside deteriorated, deploying heavy hoses and ladder trucks to combat the aggressive blaze. Meanwhile, four residents sustained injuries ranging from severe smoke inhalation to burns as they frantically attempted to escape through the smoke-choked hallways.

"You could feel the heat from across the street," said one local resident. "The firefighters didn't hesitate for a second. They ran straight into that wall of smoke while everyone else was running out."

During the grueling containment effort, two firefighters suffered injuries while pulling residents to safety and fighting to keep the flames from jumping to adjoining structures.

All six victims were rushed to nearby hospitals by EMS. Fire officials confirmed that none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

FDNY fire marshals remained at the scene long after the flames were brought under control to begin pinpointing the cause of the blaze. While preliminary reports suggest the fire may have started on an upper level, structural inspectors are evaluating the integrity of the building before displaced residents are permitted to retrieve essential belongings.

Red Cross emergency relief teams are currently on-site assisting families forced out of their homes by the disaster.
