Venezuela’s Maduro gets June 2027 trial date in US drug-trafficking case

A judge set Nicolás Maduro’s drug-trafficking trial for June 1, 2027, in a U.S. case involving alleged cocaine conspiracies. Maduro, 63, and his wife, Cilia Flores, 69, have pleaded not guilty and have been held in a Brooklyn jail since U.S. forces seized them from Caracas in a January raid. If convicted, they face life sentences. Defense lawyers plan to challenge the indictment beginning early September, with oral arguments on motions scheduled for Nov. 17.
