The U.S. Army is rehearsing temporary battlefield burials in case future conflicts produce mass casualties and remains cannot be evacuated quickly. During Operation Dragon Covenant in North Carolina, engineers, medical teams, chaplains and fatality specialists tested large-scale interment procedures using simulated remains. The exercise aimed to preserve remains for later identification and return to families, while treating the dead with dignity. The Army said it had not conducted such training at scale since the Korean War, preparing for wartime casualty scenarios.
