Four UN human rights experts condemned French police tactics during nationwide student protests, saying serious, sometimes irreversible injuries to minors were “unacceptable and unjustifiable.” They also said arrests and detentions affecting several thousand people, mainly minors, appeared disproportionate and could deter peaceful assembly and free expression. The protests began in mid-September, with students demanding improved education conditions and equal access to quality schooling. The experts acknowledged violence against police and damage to property, but urged investigations, clear guidance for officers, and a comprehensive review of policing practices.
