UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said he is “alarmed” by a surge in executions in Iran since March 19. He said at least 56 people have been executed on national security-related charges, including 27 linked to earlier anti-government protests, with more than 100 others at risk on similar charges. Türk also condemned persistent fair-trial and due-process concerns, saying confessions have allegedly been obtained under torture and some executions were carried out publicly or weeks after arrest.
