Ukrainian Prime Minister to Step Down as Zelenskyy Announces Government Reshuffle

Ukraine’s prime minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, has stepped down as President Volodymyr Zelensky announced fresh changes to Ukraine’s government.

Svyrydenko said in a social media statement that she was “proud” to have led the government during one of the most difficult periods in Ukraine’s modern history. She said she had discussed “next steps” with Zelensky but did not provide details. She added that she remains ready to serve Ukraine and support efforts to strengthen the country’s position and move toward a just peace.

Zelensky said the reshuffle reflects a change in Ukraine’s political strategy and that leadership responsibilities in foreign policy priorities would be assigned to experienced individuals ahead of what the Ukrainian public expects.

He also said there would be changes among top ranks in Ukraine’s law-enforcement agencies. Zelensky said he had met with senior officials following the announcement, including energy minister Denys Shmyhal, interior minister Ihor Klymenko, and defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

The overhaul will be the fourth major reorganisation of Zelensky’s government since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
