Ukrainian drones hit Russia’s largest oil refinery in the city of Omsk, in western Siberia, in what Kyiv described as one of its deepest strikes on Russian territory since the full-scale invasion.
Ukraine’s military said the attack caused a fire at the facility, which local Russian officials confirmed. Ukrainian authorities positioned the strike as extending long-range capabilities, noting the Omsk refinery is nearly 2,500 kilometers from Ukrainian territory and close to Russia’s border with Kazakhstan.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the long-range sanctions against Russia’s oil sector reached the Omsk refinery and argued that upgraded Fire Point drones have brought Siberia within reach of Ukrainian precision. He framed the attack as both a blow to Russia’s oil economy and an operational achievement for Ukrainian forces.
Reporting also said the Omsk refinery is among the largest of Russia’s gasoline producers, with an estimated refining capacity of more than 21 million metric tons of crude oil per year, and that no casualties were reported.
