Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian forces carried out overnight strikes against two Russian oil refineries, targeting energy infrastructure deep inside Russia.
In a message published ahead of Constitution Day, Zelensky said the “long-range sanctions” reached two sites: the Slavyansk oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, located about 300 kilometers from the front line, and an oil refinery in Yaroslavl Oblast, roughly 700 kilometers from Ukraine’s border. Zelensky said the operations were intended to reduce the resources available to Russia’s “war machine” and bring “another step” toward peace.
Russian authorities reported consequences from the attack in the Krasnodar region, saying a fire broke out at the Slavyansk refinery following the overnight incident; reporting also pointed to damage in the surrounding area, including impacts to infrastructure. For Yaroslavl Oblast, Zelensky said the refinery was targeted as well, while local officials and subsequent reporting described drone-related disruptions in the region during the same period.
The strikes came as Ukraine continues a sustained campaign against Russian oil and gas infrastructure, which Kyiv says supports Russia’s war effort.
