Ukraine’s defense forces carried out strikes on key targets in Russia and Russian-occupied territory, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on July 2.
According to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces hit the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Kstovo, located in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, during the night of July 1–2. The strike was confirmed, and early reports indicated a fire at the refinery, with assessments of damage still ongoing. The General Staff said the facility is one of Russia’s largest oil refining plants and helps produce fuels used for Russia’s armed forces.
The General Staff also reported a strike on a railway bridge in Russian-occupied Stanytsia Luhanska in Luhansk Oblast. It said the bridge is used by Russian forces for military logistics and the transport of personnel, weapons, and military supplies.
In addition to the refinery and railway bridge, the General Staff said other targets were hit, including a Russian drone storage facility near temporarily occupied Kamianka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, a railway bridge over the Siverskyi Donets River near Stanytsia Luhanska, and a Russian command and observation post near Vilshana in Kharkiv Oblast.
