Ukraine Says It Hit Multiple Targets Inside Russia During Overnight Assault

In one of the largest drone assaults since the onset of the conflict, Ukraine reportedly deployed close to 600 drones targeting multiple sites across Russia during the night. This operation hit areas around the Moscow region, resulting in the deaths of several individuals, including three in the Moscow area and one in Belgorod.

Russian officials stated that among those affected, a woman was killed in her home in Khimki, located just northwest of Moscow, and two men lost their lives in a nearby village. Casualties also extended to construction workers, as at least 12 people were injured at a job site near a refinery.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized the attacks as "entirely justified", asserting that they were a response to the persistent Russian assaults on Ukrainian cities and communities. This aggressive retaliation follows a deadly Russian strike on Kyiv that claimed 24 lives just a day prior, prompting Zelenskyy to emphasize Ukraine's right to defend itself against ongoing aggression.

The extent of the drone attacks has added a new dimension to the conflict, with Russia's Defense Ministry claiming that air defenses intercepted a substantial number of the drones. Despite these measures, the scale of the operation marks a significant shift in Ukraine's tactical approach.

As both sides continue to intensify their aerial campaigns, analysts indicate that such military engagements may lead to heightened tensions and further acts of retaliation, as diplomatic avenues remain stalled amidst the ongoing violence.
