Ukraine reports destruction of Russian MiG-29 fighter jet in Crimea drone strike

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) says it carried out a drone strike in Russian-occupied Crimea that destroyed a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet and damaged an Irtysh radar system.

HUR said the attacks were conducted on the night of Dec. 4 by its Prymary (“Ghosts”) unit, using long-range drones. It claimed the MiG-29 was destroyed at the Kacha air base, just outside Sevastopol, while the Irtysh radar was struck near Simferopol.

In a statement accompanying the claim, HUR said the strikes were aimed at systematically weakening Moscow’s air-defense and military capabilities on the peninsula by targeting equipment including radars, air-defense systems—and fighter aircraft of the Russian armed forces.

The report included videos showing a drone approach and strike sequence, but the final damage outcome was not independently verified by the outlet publishing the story.
