Ukraine Receives $3.6B as First Tranche of EU’s Ukraine Support Loan

Ukraine has received the first tranche of support from the European Union under a loan package worth more than €3.4 billion (about $3.6 billion), according to reporting on the EU’s memorandum governing the deal.

The EU memorandum ties further disbursements to Kyiv passing required tax and fiscal reforms. Those additional reforms are needed to unlock two more tranches of the loan, meaning the next payments depend on progress on the conditions set out by the EU.

The tranche is intended to provide Ukraine with near-term financial support as it continues to manage the costs of the war and the strain on its economy and public services.
