Ukraine nearly doubles successful strikes more than 50 kilometers behind Russian lines

Ukraine’s successful mid- and long-range strikes behind enemy lines almost doubled during June, the country’s defense minister said July 5.

Mykhailo Fedorov said that “the number of targets hit at a distance of more than 50 kilometers from the contact line has almost doubled,” citing results shared in a Telegram post.

He said Ukraine has increased its so-called mid-range campaign in recent months to disrupt Russian logistics and reduce the enemy’s ability to supply its forces. Kyiv has particularly focused on Crimea, where the strikes have contributed to a fuel shortage crisis on the peninsula, according to the report.

Fedorov added that destroying Russian warehouses, transport, and supply routes limits Russia’s capacity to sustain units in the field. He also said Ukraine set multiple records in June, including more strikes on Russian artillery, strikes on Russian vehicles and motorcycles, and record drone and helicopter interceptions.

The defense minister further claimed that more than 200,000 enemy targets were hit overall in June and that Ukraine killed or seriously injured almost 28,000 Russian troops during the month.
