Ukraine has taken a step toward possible criminal action against Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General has registered a formal request sent from the Office of the President and is currently reviewing it within its legal authority. As of July 30, officials said no criminal proceedings have been opened yet based on the submission. The request stems from a Belarusian opposition appeal that asks prosecutors to examine alleged crimes tied to Lukashenko’s support for Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, including use of Belarusian territory.
