Ukrainian volunteer and former defence minister’s adviser Serhii Sternenko says the country expects to reach near-mass production of countermeasures against Russian jet-powered Shahed drones by the end of 2026. Interceptor systems are at different stages, from prototypes to small and medium production runs. Electric-powered models have advanced further, but Sternenko says their speed may limit effectiveness against faster threats. Jet-powered interceptors appear more promising, though producing their engines is more difficult and costly. Ukraine is also developing the Bars drone-missile for use as an interceptor.
