UAE adviser Gargash says Iran can’t “turn the page on war,” slams attacks on vessels

UAE Diplomatic Adviser to the President Anwar Gargash said Iran is unable to commit to de-escalation after a series of reported attacks involving commercial shipping in the Gulf region.

In a post on X on July 8, Gargash said the alleged attacks on Saudi and Qatari-linked commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz—along with Iran’s repeated aggression toward Bahrain and Kuwait—demonstrate that Tehran cannot meet the requirements for de-escalation or “turn the page on war.”

He added that Gulf Arab states should not remain targets of what he described as Iran’s shifting between escalation and a “path of rationality,” stability, peace.

Gargash’s remarks followed separate condemnation by Saudi Arabia and Qatar of the reported vessel attacks, with both countries warning the incidents threatened international maritime security and global energy supplies.
