U.S. Military Will Be Out of Iraq by End of September, Iraqi PM Says

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said the U.S. military will be out of Iraq by September 30. Speaking alongside President Donald Trump in Washington, al-Zaidi said the U.S. would end its troop presence while “companies will be inside Iraq.” The Pentagon later reiterated an agreement with Iraq to end the U.S. mission against Islamic State fighters. Reuters and other outlets report that the plan is tied to reducing the influence of Iran-backed armed groups operating outside state control.
