Two Terrorists Neutralized as Security Forces Foil Threat in Udhampur's Brattal

UDHAMPUR — Security forces neutralized two suspected terrorists during a joint counter-terrorism operation in the high-altitude forested area of Brattal, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.

Acting on precise intelligence regarding a hidden terrorist group that had been tracked in the dense timberline over the past week, a combined task force comprising the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF established a tight cordon around 9:00 PM.

Initial contact was established shortly after the perimeter was locked. Despite severe weather conditions, pitch-black visibility, and challenging terrain, the joint forces maintained visual contact and pressed forward into the suspected hideout zone.

While the area remained relatively quiet through the midnight hours, the lull ended sharply in the early morning as the trapped insurgents opened heavy automatic fire and detonated explosive charges in a desperate attempt to break through the security cordon.

In response to the attack, security forces retaliated with targeted, heavy fire that effectively pinned the militants down within the dense forest cover. During the ensuing firefight, both terrorists were eliminated, and their bodies were recovered by search teams at first light. Following the engagement, personnel swept the site and seized a substantial stash of combat-grade arms, ammunition, and explosives.

Security forces suspect the slain individuals were foreign militants affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

Reinforcements have been deployed to the surrounding Majalta and Khubban belts. Forces are currently carrying out extensive combing and sanitization drives to sweep nearby natural caves and dense foliage to eliminate any remaining threats in the sector.

Military officials emphasized that the successful neutralization of the cadre intercepted a potential high-profile attack planned for lower transit routes in the district. The recovery of sophisticated communication equipment and night-vision gear indicates that the group was well-equipped for an extended, clandestine operation deep within the rugged terrain.

To ensure civilian safety, local authorities have issued a public advisory urging resident in nearby border villages to avoid moving into deep forest tracks while the search operation remains active. High-alert security protocols remain in place across key highway checkpoints and sensitive installations throughout the region.
