Two-Michelin-Starred Restaurant Owner Facing Jail for Serving Ants

Prosecutors in South Korea asked for a one-year jail term for the owner of a two-Michelin-starred restaurant accused of serving dried ants as a dessert topping. Ants are not among the insect species approved for human consumption, and investigators said the case came to light after diners posted photos online showing ant-topped dishes. Prosecutors estimated the restaurant used about 49,000 ants over four years and sought a 20 million won fine. The court is expected to deliver its verdict on Sept. 2.
