Dublin, Ireland— Two men were shot from a passing car in north Dublin just after 9 p.m. on October 23, 2026, and emergency crews found them on the pavement as armed Gardaí locked down the surrounding streets.
The car did not stop. Witnesses described a dark sedan moving slow, then fast. Two bursts of gunfire. Officers arrived within minutes and pulled tape across three junctions while paramedics worked.
Both men, understood to be in their late 20s and early 30s, were taken to the Mater Hospital. One had wounds to the leg and torso. The other was shot in the arm. Doctors say neither injury is life-threatening, but both remain under guard.
Gardaí believe the attack was targeted. A senior source said the men were known to officers and the shooting fits a pattern of low-level gang disputes over debt and territory in the area. No arrests have been made.
"This was not random. The vehicle was waiting," a Garda spokesperson said at the scene. "We are appealing for dashcam footage from anyone who was on the road between 8:45 and 9:15 p.m."
Residents were told to stay inside while the Armed Support Unit searched gardens and laneways. One woman said she heard what she thought were fireworks. "Then sirens everywhere. They told us to close the curtains."
Forensics teams worked under floodlights until after midnight. They marked shell casings on the road, photographed a blood-stained footpath, and removed a damaged bicycle for examination. The getaway car was later found burned out less than two kilometers away.
The shooting comes weeks after a series of threats and small-scale attacks linked to two rival groups operating out of the north inner city. Officers have increased patrols, but locals say the presence drops after a few days.
Gardaí have opened a formal attempted murder investigation and are checking CCTV from shops and buses that passed through at the time. Investigators want to speak to anyone who saw two men running from the scene.
The roads reopened at 2 a.m., but a police cordon remains around one house. The two men have not yet been formally interviewed.
