Los Angeles, United States— Two people were shot dead inside a convenience store in South Los Angeles shortly before 8 p.m. on October 23, 2026, after a gunman walked in, fired, and left on foot while customers were still inside.
The store is on a busy corner. Cameras show the man entering alone. No robbery. No argument caught on audio. He raised a handgun and fired multiple times at two men near the cooler. Then he ran.
Officers from the 77th Division found both victims on the floor. Paramedics pronounced one dead inside the store. The second died at the hospital 40 minutes later. The Los Angeles County Coroner has not released their identities pending family notification.
LAPD said the shooting appears targeted. Detectives said the victims, both in their 20s, were known associates and may have been followed to the store. The suspect is described as a male in dark clothing, wearing a black cap and mask.
"We have clear video. This was intentional and close range," a homicide detective said outside the store. "We are asking anyone who knows these individuals or who saw someone running northbound to call us."
The store owner locked the doors after police cleared the scene. He said his clerk hid in the back room when the shots started. Inside, shelves were knocked over, and blood pooled near the checkout aisle. The register was untouched.
Neighbors gathered as helicopters circled overhead. One resident said shootings have become more frequent in the block, but never inside the store. "Kids buy candy there after school. Now nobody wants to go near it."
The area has seen a sharp uptick in gang-related homicides this year, though LAPD has not confirmed a gang link in this case. Officers searched nearby alleys and recovered a discarded cap that is now being tested for DNA.
Homicide investigators spent hours pulling video from the store and from a gas station across the street. They are also tracking phone data from the minutes before the attack to see if the victims were being watched.
No arrests have been made. The store will remain closed while detectives process evidence. Patrols have been increased for the weekend.
