A Turkish-owned cargo ship carrying corn from Ukraine caught fire and sank in Romania’s exclusive economic zone, leaving two crew members dead and 11 rescued. The vessel, Royad Mammadov, was sailing from Izmail to Ravenna when the incident occurred roughly 30 nautical miles south of Sfântu Gheorghe. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of striking the ship with two drones, but Romanian authorities have not independently confirmed the cause. Rescue teams evacuated injured sailors by helicopter as investigations continue now.
