Twelve Dead In Missouri: Private Plane Crashes Moments After Takeoff In Butler County Incident

Butler, USA—A single-engine turboprop plane crashed in a field shortly after takeoff from Butler Memorial Airport on Sunday. All twelve people on board died in the wreckage. The aircraft was carrying a group of skydivers at the time of the incident.

Local emergency teams reached the site about 300 yards from the airport runway shortly after the 11:35 a.m. departure. The plane became engulfed in flames upon impact. Sheriff Chad Anderson officially confirmed the mass casualty event during an afternoon news briefing.

Witnesses observed the aircraft failing to gain altitude shortly after it left the ground. It made a sharp left turn before it stalled and went down nose-first. The plane was completely destroyed by the resulting fire.

The flight was operated by a private skydiving company based in the region. Most of the occupants were experienced jumpers, while two others were reportedly prepared for a tandem jump. Family members of those on board were at the airport when the crash occurred.

Federal aviation officials noted that the airport was not providing air traffic control services at the time of the flight. The plane was not required to maintain radio communication in that specific airspace. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are now en route to the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has secured the crash perimeter. First responders initially searched the surrounding fields to determine if anyone had successfully jumped before impact. No survivors were found in the vicinity of the wreckage.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims, pending notification of all next of kin. Bates County officials stated the priority remains the recovery and identification of those killed. The runway at Butler Memorial Airport will remain closed while federal investigators analyze the debris.

Engineers are looking into whether a sudden loss of power contributed to the stall. The pilot reportedly attempted a final maneuver toward a nearby highway before the plane hit the field. That sequence is currently under technical review by the arriving federal team.

Recovery operations will continue through the night as investigators map the debris field. The focus is now on the engine components and the flight history of the aircraft. No cause has been officially declared for the failure.
