Turkish opposition leader says occupied northern Cyprus should be called ‘Turkish Republic of Cyprus’

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of Turkey’s main opposition CHP, said the occupied north of Cyprus should be called the “Turkish Republic of Cyprus,” not “northern Cyprus.” Speaking on TV100, he argued that the entity was established by “Bülent Ecevit” and said its name should be the official “Turkish Republic of Cyprus.” Kılıçdaroğlu added that the move would secure Turkey’s rights in the eastern Mediterranean. The comments follow ongoing political disputes over the island’s future status.
