Turkey Says Defense Pact With Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Is Not Aimed at Iran

Turkey says its three-country defense pact with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is not directed against Iran or any other state. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the agreement follows the same general logic as NATO’s Article 5: an attack on one member is treated as an attack on all. Fidan also indicated Egypt and other countries could join later once technical steps are completed. The pact was signed by the leaders of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan in Saudi Arabia’s Mecca region and is framed as strengthening “collective deterrence” amid security threats in the region.
