Turkey Rejects European Parliament Resolution on Cyprus, Calls It “Invalid and Baseless”

Turkey rejected a European Parliament resolution on Cyprus, dismissing the document as having “no legal or moral standing” and calling it “invalid and baseless.” In a statement, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said the resolution includes what it described as “baseless and preposterous allegations” targeting the Turkish Armed Forces.

Ankara said it also views the resolution as part of a growing one-sided approach by EU institutions toward the Cyprus issue, arguing that the EU is moving away from what Turkey calls historical realities and impartiality.

Turkey further said it fully backed a separate statement by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Foreign Ministry, which also condemned the European Parliament resolution. The Turkish Cypriot response rejected the claims in the resolution and said the text distorts the circumstances surrounding the 1974 intervention, arguing that it targeted both Ankara and the Turkish Cypriot community.
