Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara plans to cooperate with Russia on additional nuclear power plants as the Russian-built Akkuyu facility nears completion. Speaking alongside President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Kyrgyzstan, Erdogan described Akkuyu as important to bilateral relations. The plant’s four reactors are expected to provide about 10% of Turkey’s electricity once operational. Turkey relies on imported energy, making nuclear expansion strategically important.
