Thousands of Tunisians rallied in the capital on Saturday in the largest protest against President Kais Saied in years. Led by the powerful UGTT labour union and civil society groups, the march brought together opposition parties, lawyers, doctors, journalists and unemployed people. Protesters demanded democracy, the release of Saied’s critics and an end to alleged attacks on trade union rights. They also voiced anger over economic hardship, shortages and recurring water and power cuts. Saied rejects accusations that he is a dictator.
