According to judicial authorities, members linked to the extremist group known as “1143” allegedly created fictitious animal-aid and food-distribution groups as a cover for recruitment, financing, and internal organization. What appeared outwardly as volunteer activity is now described by investigators as a strategic mask — one designed to normalize presence and deflect suspicion.

The inquiry, led by the Polícia Judiciária under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, uncovered material suggesting that these initiatives were not humanitarian in nature, but instrumental. Through messaging platforms and informal networks, the alleged members are believed to have used these fronts to attract sympathizers and reinforce ideological cohesion.

More troubling are the images collected during the investigation. Video-surveillance footage, now in the hands of authorities, reportedly captured acts of physical aggression carried out by individuals connected to the group. The recordings form a central part of the evidence, helping investigators reconstruct timelines and identify those involved.

The violence documented in the videos is described as deliberate and coordinated, contradicting claims that the group functioned merely as a social collective. Prosecutors consider the footage a decisive element in establishing criminal responsibility, alongside seized digital communications and materials found during searches.

Officials stress that the investigation does not target legitimate volunteer organizations, whose work remains essential within communities. Instead, the focus lies on the manipulation of social solidarity for extremist purposes, a tactic increasingly observed by security services across Europe.

Several suspects have been identified, and judicial proceedings are ongoing. Authorities are continuing to analyze financial flows, digital platforms, and possible international links, while reinforcing monitoring of extremist activity conducted under false civic appearances.

As the case develops, it raises a broader question — not of fear, but of vigilance. When help is used as camouflage, trust becomes fragile. The task now, officials say, is to protect both public safety and the integrity of genuine solidarity, ensuring that compassion is never turned into a weapon.
