Trump Says He Won’t ‘Take Sides’ in Brazil Election, but Calls It a ‘Disgrace’

U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Brazil’s presidential election as a “disgrace” while saying he had not taken sides. The comments came after incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defeated Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, in Sunday’s runoff. Trump pointed to a sharp market decline after the result. Flávio Bolsonaro and his family reportedly arrived in Miami on Wednesday, after leaving Brazil via Argentina and Ecuador. He called himself the country’s “true elected president,” while his party said it accepted the election outcome.
