Trump declines to renew major trade deal with Canada, Mexico

President Donald Trump said he will not reauthorize the U.S. trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, indicating the Trump administration would not renew the deal. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated, “I’m not looking to renew it,” and argued that the U.S. should not maintain the arrangement unless the partners improve their terms.

Trump said the U.S. does not require anything from Canada or Mexico, while characterizing the relationship as one in which Canada and Mexico rely heavily on U.S. benefits. He added that both countries must treat the U.S. better, framing the decision as a response to perceived imbalances in the current trade terms.
