HAFLONG, Assam — A tragic road accident along National Highway 137 claimed one life and left another individual fighting for survival at Chudiningram in Assam's Dima Hasao district on Saturday evening, August 15, 2026.
The fatal mishap occurred around 4:30 p.m. within the jurisdiction of the Mahur Police Station, prompting an immediate emergency response from local authorities and nearby residents.
Police identified the deceased as 40-year-old Haijeteung Riame, a resident of Impoi village. Riame sustained critical injuries during the crash and was immediately rushed by first responders to the Mahur Primary Health Centre (PHC), where attending medical officers pronounced him dead on arrival.
Another individual, identified as 32-year-old Ramsamingbe Newme from Mahur Town, suffered severe, life-threatening injuries in the collision. Emergency medical personnel initially provided stabilization care at Mahur PHC before transferring him to Haflong Civil Hospital for advanced trauma management.
