SAMAIL, Oman — A major traffic disaster struck the Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate on Saturday, August 29, 2026 after a violent collision along a major roadway in the Samail district resulted in the deaths of six people and left 18 others injured.
Emergency responder units, including traffic police, Royal Oman Police (ROP) rescue teams, and local ambulance services, rushed to the scene following frantic calls from witnesses.
The crash involved a high-capacity transport vehicle carrying workers and multiple private cars. The impact was severe enough to crush the chassis of the primary vehicles involved, trapping several occupants inside the twisted metal frame before rescue crews arrived.
Firefighters and rescue workers utilized specialized hydraulic cutting tools to extract trapped passengers from the wreckage. Traffic across the highway was halted for several hours as emergency teams established a safety perimeter and cleared debris scattered across multiple lanes. Medical personnel at the scene confirmed six fatalities due to severe trauma.
The 18 injured survivors were stabilized on-site before being transported to regional hospitals, including Samail Hospital and Nizwa Hospital. Medical officials reported that four of the injured remain in critical condition within intensive care units, while others are being treated for fractures, lacerations, and internal injuries.
The Royal Oman Police issued a statement extending condolences while providing an operational update:"Emergency services responded to a multi-vehicle collision in the Wilayat of Samail. Six individuals have been confirmed deceased, while 18 others sustained varying degrees of injury. Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing."
Traffic division investigators are currently conducting a forensic analysis of the crash site to determine the precise circumstances leading up to the collision. Early reports suggest high speed and potential lane-drift as contributing factors, though official findings have yet to be finalized.
Local authorities reiterated calls for motorists to adhere to speed limits and maintain safe distances, particularly along heavy transport routes.
