STOCKPORT, Greater Manchester — A major investigation is underway following a tragic road traffic collision in Heaviley, Stockport, where a male pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a Bee Network bus on the busy A6 Buxton Road.
Emergency services were alerted to the scene at approximately 10:40 AM following reports of a severe collision involving a commercial bus and a pedestrian near the junction of Winifred Road.
Police officers, paramedics, and fire crews rushed to the scene. Despite the rapid response of emergency personnel, the man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities immediately cordoned off a substantial stretch of the A6 Buxton Road between the Alma Lodge Hotel and Nangreave Road. Privacy screens were erected by collision investigation teams while specialist officers examined the roadway and gathered physical evidence.
The major thoroughfare remains closed in both directions, causing extensive traffic delays across the Stockport area. Local bus routes, including the 192 and 199 services, have been temporarily diverted or suspended as police carry out their inquiries.
"Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. We are working closely with the police and our bus operator to provide support as they respond at the site," said Alison Chew, Bus Network Director at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have launched a full investigation to establish the exact circumstances leading up to the collision.
Officers are appealing to members of the public who were traveling along the A6 Buxton Road around the time of the incident to come forward, particularly those who may have dash cam footage, CCTV, or eyewitness accounts of the vehicle's movement prior to the crash.
Local community members and business owners along the bustling stretch expressed shock as the incident unfolded, with several placing flowers near the cordon line in tribute to the victim. Police expect the road closure to remain in place for several hours while forensic reconstruction teams complete their detailed assessment of the scene.
