RAS AL KHAIMAH — What was meant to be a day of academic triumph turned into absolute heartbreak on Thursday morning, June 25, 2026 as a tragic road accident in the Al Ghail area claimed the life of an 18-year-old Emirati high school student on his way to his final exams.
The deceased, identified as Salem Ali Rashid Al Mazrouei, was traveling with his close friend and classmate to sit for their end-of-year examinations for the 2025–2026 academic years. Salem passed away from his injuries, while his friend, who was driving the vehicle, survived the crash but remains hospitalized.
According to family members and initial reports, the two students were driving through Al Ghail—an area located roughly 45 kilometers south of Ras Al Khaimah City—when a heavy truck suddenly emerged directly in their path.
The young driver attempted a desperate maneuver to swerve and avoid the oncoming heavy vehicle, but given the sudden appearance of the truck, a violent collision was unavoidable. Emergency response teams rushed to the scene shortly after being alerted, transporting both teenagers to the nearest medical facility. Sadly, Salem succumbed to his severe injuries.
Speaking through deep grief, Salem’s father, Ali Rashid Al Mazrouei, shared that his son was full of ambition and counting down the days to his future. Salem was only a few months away from realizing his dream of graduating high school, joining a university, and specializing in a field he was deeply passionate about.
"He was eagerly awaiting his graduation ceremony, which was supposed to be held in just a few days," his father recalled.
Despite the shattering loss, the family expressed immense gratitude for the overwhelming wave of community solidarity. Mourners and community members from various neighborhoods across Ras Al Khaimah and neighboring emirates have flocked to support the family.
The Al Mazrouei family also extended their thanks to the local police and competent authorities for their swift response and empathy while executing the necessary legal and official procedures during this incredibly painful time.
Meanwhile, community prayers continue for the driver, Salem's classmate, who is still receiving medical treatment in the hospital as he recovers from both the physical and emotional trauma of the crash.
