Tragedy on Etah-Aliganj Road: 5 Killed, 11 Injured as Speeding Truck Rams Stationary UPSRTC Bus

ETAH, Uttar Pradesh — In a tragic highway disaster late Thursday night, July 2, 2026 five passengers lost their lives and 11 others sustained severe injuries after a speeding canter truck violently rammed into a stationary Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus on the Etah-Aliganj road.

The horrific crash occurred near Keelarmau village in the Bagwala area of Etah district. According to District Magistrate Arvind Singh, the UPSRTC bus, belonging to the Etah depot, was operating a late-night route from Farrukhabad to Delhi. Around 11:30 PM, the long-distance vehicle suddenly developed a critical mechanical fault, forcing the driver to pull over onto the roadside to perform emergency repairs.

Seeking relief from the late-night journey, several passengers disembarked and were standing clustered along the shoulder of the highway next to the disabled vehicle. Moments later, an out-of-control, speeding canter truck barreled down the road and smashed into the rear of the bus, completely crushing the unsuspecting travelers standing outside.

"The bus had broken down on the way, so many passengers got off and were standing by the roadside," recalled Anand, a surviving passenger. "Suddenly, a truck came at a breakneck speed and ran over us."

The force of the impact triggered immediate panic. Four individuals—identified by officials as Rajesh (34), Sukhram (42), Shailesh (32), and an unidentified man—were instantly killed on the spot due to severe trauma.

Rescue teams and police units rushed to the scene following emergency alerts from distressed onlookers. Eleven injured victims were hastily pulled from the wreckage and transferred to the local government medical college. Despite immediate medical intervention, a fifth passenger succumbed to fatal injuries during treatment.

The Principal of the government medical college, Dr. Balveer Singh, confirmed that the remaining 11 hospitalised individuals are currently being stabilized and most are out of immediate danger.

Following the disaster, Etah District Magistrate Arvind Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Ilamaran arrived at the hospital to oversee the medical deployment and coordinate aid for the grieving families. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life, ordering regional administrators to guarantee top-tier medical assistance to all survivors.

A case has officially been registered against the commercial driver following a preliminary police inquiry that explicitly attributes the tragedy to extreme over speeding and highly negligent driving. This devastating incident mirrors broader traffic safety trends, as highway statistics heavily link late-night transit accidents to a dangerous combination of poor visibility and illegal speeding.

The bodies of the five victims have been sent for official post-mortem examinations as the criminal and traffic investigation continues.
