SINGAPORE — A 40-year-old male motorcyclist lost his life on Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2026 following a three-vehicle collision along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) towards Tuas. The severe crash, which involved two cars and a motorcycle, caused major traffic disruption and triggered heavy congestion leading toward the Tuas Checkpoint.

Emergency services, including the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF), were alerted to the incident at approximately 3:35 p.m. Upon arrival, paramedics attempted first aid, but the motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic footage and images shared on social media showed the motorcycle lying on its side along the right-most lane, positioned directly behind a dark-colored saloon car featuring a shattered rear windshield and significant rear-end impact damage.

The collision forced authorities to immediately block two out of the expressway's three lanes while emergency responders cleared debris and conducted preliminary forensic work. The lane closures created an extensive traffic tailback during peak Saturday travel hours.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) issued an urgent travel advisory alerting motorists heading toward the border to anticipate substantial delays and recommending alternative routes via Tuas West Road. Operations across all lanes were eventually restored later in the evening after the site was cleared.

"The expressway monitoring system blocked off two lanes immediately following the crash to allow emergency teams room to operate safely," noted an official advisory update. "Motorists traveling toward the checkpoint were urged to seek alternative routes."

The Singapore Police Force confirmed that investigations into the exact sequence of events leading up to the collision remain ongoing. Detectives are reviewing dashboard camera footage from nearby vehicles to determine whether sudden braking or lane changing played a role in the crash.

The fatal crash marks another grim reminder of vulnerability for two-wheeler riders on major expressways. Traffic Police continue to urge all road users to maintain safe following distances and exercise extra caution along heavy freight and commuter corridors.
