SRINAGAR, JAMMU & KASHMIR — A pleasant day took a tragic turn on Sunday, June 14, 2026 after a violent two-vehicle collision near the Lasjan Bypass area on the outskirts of Srinagar left one person dead and another severely injured.
The fatal accident involved a speeding private car and a standard Road Transport Corporation (RTC) passenger bus.
According to preliminary reports from local traffic officials, the incident occurred during the peak afternoon hours. A speeding sedan was heading along the main bypass road when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
Witnesses at the scene stated that the car was traveling at a high velocity before it rammed violently into the rear of an RTC bus that was navigating the Lasjan stretch. The sheer impact of the crash completely crushed the front half of the car, trapping its occupants inside the mangled metal wreckage.
On looking commuters and local residents rushed to the vehicle to initiate a rescue effort, immediately alerting the local police and emergency medical services. Using makeshift tools, responders managed to pry open the vehicle to extract the victims.
Both occupants of the car were rushed to a nearby hospital in Srinagar for emergency medical intervention. Tragically, one individual succumbed to severe, blunt-force trauma injuries shortly after arriving at the medical facility. The second occupant remains hospitalized in critical condition, where doctors are monitoring their injuries.
Traffic along the busy Lasjan Bypass was briefly disrupted as authorities cleared the wreckage from the highway to prevent secondary accidents.
The local police have officially registered a case and taken cognizance of the incident. A preliminary investigation points to over speeding and a failure to maintain a safe braking distance behind the passenger bus as the primary causes of the crash. Authorities are working to verify the identities of both victims before notifying their respective families.
