Tragedy in Telangana: Three-Year-Old Girl Mauled to Death by Stray Dog Pack

PEDDAPALLI, Telangana — A horrific incident has shaken the quiet village of Katnapalli in the Sultanabad mandal, where a three-year-old girl was killed in a brutal stray dog attack on Monday, April 20, 2026. The child, identified as Divya Behra, was the daughter of migrant laborers from Odisha who had moved to the region to work at local brick kilns.

The tragedy unfolded while the girl was playing outside her family’s rented room. According to witnesses and local officials, a pack of stray dogs suddenly pounced on the child, biting her neck and dragging her into a nearby agricultural field.

Divya’s parents were engaged in work at the brick kiln at the time of the attack. When they realized their daughter was missing, they began a frantic search of the area. Tragically, they discovered her body in the fields shortly after; she had sustained catastrophic injuries and died on the spot.

"By the time anyone could reach her, she had already succumbed to the multiple injuries," a local official stated. "The speed and ferocity of the pack left no chance for rescue."

The incident has triggered a wave of fear and anger throughout the Peddapalli district. Residents of Katnapalli and surrounding villages have long complained about the growing number of aggressive stray dogs, citing previous non-fatal attacks on livestock and children.

Villagers have accused municipal and panchayat authorities of negligence, citing a failure to implement effective animal birth control (ABC) programs to manage the local stray population. The tragedy also underscores the precarious conditions within labor colonies, where the children of migrant workers are often left to play unsupervised near industrial sites and open fields, leaving them highly vulnerable to such attacks.

Sultanabad police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances of the attack. Local leaders are demanding immediate compensation for the grieving family and a comprehensive plan to clear stray dog packs from residential areas.
