SAN JOSE, CA — A quiet Monday morning in South San Jose was shattered by violence when a shooting outside a local medical facility left a man dead and a woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The incident unfolded at approximately 10:14 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026 outside the Kaiser Permanente medical offices located on Cottle Road, between Coronado Avenue and Beswick Drive, in the city’s Village Oaks neighborhood.
According to the San Jose Police Department (SJPD), officers rushed to the medical complex following multiple emergency calls reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a chaotic scene, finding a man and a woman both suffering from severe gunshot wounds.
Paramedics immediately transported both individuals to a nearby trauma center. Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased a short time later. The woman remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
During a press briefing following the incident, SJPD spokesperson Stacie Shih revealed that investigators believe the deceased man was actually the suspect in the shooting. Preliminary findings indicate the man was acquainted with the woman, making the tragedy a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence.
"We are trying to figure out the nature of the relationship, again, as we try to establish the motive and circumstances that led to the shooting," Shih told reporters.
In a statement released Monday afternoon, Kaiser Permanente officials confirmed that the hospitalized woman is an employee at the South San Jose facility. The healthcare provider emphasized that the shooter appeared to have deliberately sought out the victim at her job.
"This was a personal matter, with the shooter coming to our employee's place of work," the Kaiser Permanente statement read. "While this isolated event is deeply concerning, there is no ongoing threat to our employees, physicians, patients, members, or visitors."
The medical office building was partially locked down as police cordoned off the parking lot and surrounding walkways to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether multiple firearms were involved or specified who fired the fatal shots.
While the sudden burst of gunfire caused immediate panic for patients and nearby shoppers in the busy Village Oaks commercial area, police have assured the public that the danger has passed. SJPD reiterated that the shooting was an isolated domestic or personal incident, and there is no broader threat to public safety.
The identities of both the victim and the suspect are being withheld pending notification of next of kin and further investigation.
