SHEFFIELD — A murder investigation has been launched after a 30-year-old woman was shot and killed outside a popular city centre bar in Sheffield early Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that emergency services were called to the scene on Carver Street at approximately 1:15 a.m. following reports of gunshots. Armed officers and paramedics arrived within minutes to find the victim suffering from critical gunshot wounds to the upper body. Despite extensive efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an immediate containment of the surrounding area and rapid intelligence gathering, armed units tracked down and arrested three individuals in connection with the fatal attack.
"This was a horrific act of violence that has tragically claimed the life of a young woman," said Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Graham. "Our thoughts are with her family at this deeply devastating time. Thanks to swift action by our officers on the ground, three suspects are now in police custody."
The suspects—two men aged 24 and 28, and a 25-year-old woman—were detained in a nearby residential district shortly after the shooting. They remain in custody where they are being questioned by detectives on suspicion of murder.
Carver Street, known for its vibrant nightlife, remains completely cordoned off as forensic experts scour the pavement outside the venue for ballistic evidence. Digital forensics teams are also actively retrieving CCTV footage from multiple businesses along the street to reconstruct the moments leading up to the discharge of the firearm.
Local residents and workers arriving in the city centre Tuesday morning were met with heavy police presence and diversions.
Superintendent Mark James sought to reassure the public that the incident is currently treated as an isolated occurrence. "We understand the shock and anxiety this will cause the local community and visitors to our city centre," James stated. "While we believe this was a targeted attack, we have significantly increased high-visibility patrols in the area to provide reassurance."
As the investigation intensifies, South Yorkshire Police are appealing to anyone who was in the Carver Street or Division Street area between midnight and 2:00 a.m. to come forward.
Detectives are particularly interested in speaking with taxi drivers who may have been waiting nearby, or any drivers who might have captured dash am footage of individuals acting suspiciously. Anyone with information is urged to contact police immediately or provide anonymous tips via Crimestoppers.
