Tragedy in Peshawar: Woman Killed, 6 Injured in Suspected Late-Night Drone Strike

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN — A quiet night transformed into a scene of horror on the outskirts of Peshawar after a suspected drone strike slammed into a residential area late Tuesday night, June 30, 2026. The targeted blast left one woman dead and six members of her family wounded, adding to growing security anxieties in the region.

The strike occurred in the Pastawana area of the Hassan Khel subdivision, a mountainous region located on the boundary between Peshawar and Kohat districts.

According to local sources and community elders, the aerial strike directly hit a domestic property, catching the occupants completely off guard as they slept. Emergency responders and local villagers immediately rushed to the scene to pull victims from the debris.

Seven individuals—all belonging to the same family—were pulled from the wreckage and urgently transported to the hospital. One female victim, identified by a community elder as the daughter-in-law of a local resident named Sher Mast, sustained severe, critical wounds and tragically succumbed to her injuries.

While four members of the family were treated for minor injuries and discharged in the early hours of Wednesday morning, two victims remain hospitalized. Sher Mast and his 15-year-old son continue to undergo medical care at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

The deadly strike comes amid a sharp escalation of cross-border and regional friction. Just hours before the incident, complex military activities were reported across the airspace of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The regional security climate has grown increasingly volatile, with the Hassan Khel subdivision frequently finding itself caught in the crosshairs.

"This is a terrifying escalation for the local civilian population," noted a community representative. "Families are paying the price for an unpredictable conflict taking place directly over our heads."

This is not the first time the area has been targeted; a similar suspected drone strike in April partially damaged a local mosque in Hassan Khel, though no casualties were reported in that incident.

Local law enforcement and security personnel have cordoned off the site of the blast. An official investigation into the exact origin of the drone and the intended nature of the strike is currently underway as authorities attempt to piece together the events that shattered this border community.
