NOIDA, India — One person lost their life after a major fire broke out across approximately six commercial shops in Noida’s Sector 126, triggering an extensive emergency response from local police and fire services.
The inferno swept through a row of temporary and commercial shop structures in Sector 126, destroying local storefronts and creating dense plumes of smoke visible across the surrounding neighborhood.
Emergency units from the Sector 126 police jurisdiction and local fire stations rushed to the scene immediately after receiving reports of the outbreak. Firefighters launched an urgent containment operation to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent commercial and residential buildings. During search and rescue operations inside the fire-damaged structures, emergency responders found an individual unconscious. The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
As emergency crews battled the blaze, firefighters discovered a large stash of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders stored inside the premises. The presence of these highly flammable gas containers posed a critical explosion risk to responding teams and nearby property.
"We have found a large number of LPG cylinders inside," stated Noida Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Pradeep Kumar during the operation. "We are currently addressing this issue and conducting search and rescue operations to check whether anyone else is trapped."
Dozens of fire tenders were dispatched to control the incident as crews carried out shift-based cooling operations to fully extinguish hidden embers and stabilize the site.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Abhay Kumar Mishra, the cause of the fire has not yet been established. Authorities and forensics units are inspecting the scene to collect evidence, and formal legal action will follow the findings of the investigation.
Local residents and shop owners expressed growing concern over the storage of commercial LPG cylinders in tightly packed retail spaces, calling on municipal authorities to enforce stricter safety inspections across local market areas. Safety officials confirmed that a comprehensive audit of safety compliance and illegal cylinder storage in Sector 126 and neighboring commercial hubs will be launched alongside the primary fire investigation.
