Tragedy in Multan: 1 Dead, 6 Injured in Fatal Building Roof Collapse

MULTAN, PAKISTAN — A tragic workplace accident unfolded on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, when the roof of an under-construction commercial plaza collapsed near the Northern Bypass Road in Multan, leaving one laborer dead and six others critically injured.

The disaster occurred near NCBA University, where between 10 and 15 laborers were actively working on the site when the structure suddenly gave way, trapping several workers under heavy concrete and metal debris.

Rescue 1122 emergency personnel dispatched at least 10 emergency vehicles and specialized rescue teams to the scene immediately following frantic calls for assistance. Rescuers encountered a chaotic environment as they worked to navigate unstable rubble to reach survivors.

First responders successfully pulled seven laborers from beneath the collapsed roof. However, one worker was pronounced dead due to severe injuries sustained in the collapse, while the remaining six rescued individuals were rushed to Nishtar Hospital in critical condition for urgent medical treatment.

District Emergency Officer Dr. Hussain Mian, who is personally supervising the relief operations, reported that preliminary findings point to a sudden structural failure as the primary cause of the collapse.

Eyewitness accounts and reports from site workers suggest that at least one additional laborer may still be trapped beneath the dense wreckage. Rescue teams are continuing heavy clearance and search operations using specialized equipment to ensure no victims remain unaccounted for. Local authorities are expected to initiate a formal investigation into construction safety compliance and structural materials used at the site.

Following the incident, local district administration officials ordered an immediate safety audit of ongoing commercial construction projects along the Northern Bypass corridor. District authorities pledged to take strict legal action against the building owners and contractors if any building code violations, substandard construction materials, or safety negligence are uncovered during the probe.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among local labor rights advocates and community members, who are demanding immediate financial compensation for the victim's family and the injured workers. Labor unions have reiterated the urgent need for stricter oversight, mandatory safety gear, and routine structural inspections across all high-rise and commercial development projects in the region to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
